Our platform supports GPS trackers and video telematics devices communicating using the JT/T 808 protocol.
Different manufacturers may use different values as the device identifier when connecting to our platform.
Follow the configuration steps below when connecting a JT808 device to the platform.
Configure the tracker with the following settings:
| ⚙️ Setting | 📌 Configuration |
|---|---|
| Protocol | JT/T 808 |
| Version | JT/T 808-2019 |
| Server | data.gpsiot.net |
| Port | 9236 |
Before connecting the device, confirm that the camera/tracker has the correct local timezone configured.
The timezone configured on the device should match the location where the vehicle is operating.
For example, for a vehicle operating in Kenya, the camera should be configured for the appropriate Kenya/East Africa timezone.
Incorrect timezone configuration can result in differences between:
Camera timestamps
Video/media timestamps
GPS events
Trips
Alerts
Platform reports
Important: The camera timezone and platform time settings should be aligned. If they are different, video timestamps and platform events may appear to occur at different times.
Different JT808 manufacturers may use different identifiers.
The device may identify itself using:
Device ID / Terminal ID
SIM card number / terminal phone number
We recommend trying the SIM card number / terminal phone number first.
If the device does not connect or is not recognized using the SIM card number, try the Device ID instead.
Note: The correct identifier depends on the manufacturer's implementation of JT808.
Log in to the platform.
Open Add Asset Wizard.
Enter the Device ID/Terminal ID .
select JT808 as Hardware.
Select VIDEO PLAN.
Fill all the mandatory info in the next steps.
Save the asset.
Refresh and allow a few minutes for the device to establish a connection and begin reporting.. If the device does not connect using the Device ID, try the SIM card number instead.
After adding the device, verify the platform's time settings.
Go to:
Admin → Client→ Device Settings
Confirm that the following settings match the timezone and UTC offset configured on the camera:
Device Reporting Time
Media Time Offset
If the device does not appear online or the timestamps are incorrect, check the following:
The device has mobile network coverage.
The APN is correctly configured.
The server is data.gpsiot.net.
The port is 9236.
The protocol is JT/T 808-2019.
The device timezone is correct.
The Platform Device Reporting Time matches the camera's timezone configured.
The Platform Media Time Offset matches the camera's timezone configured.
The correct device identifier has been entered.
